Promises, Promises (unreleased Incubus cover) by YouTubers Clay and Nick

Incubus has a new album coming out soon (one month today: July 12), so they set up a contest where they released the sheet music (and only the sheet music!) and had fans submit their own interpretations/covers. This video is by far my favourite of the 30 or so entries I’ve watched. It’s close enough to the real version to jive with me, plus the djembe drum + full drum kit are just fucking sick (definitely stick around for those to pick up round the first chorus— so epic!)

All of them, however, seriously impressed me with how talented musically-inclined people are. Here are some of my other favs: one (starts off a little creepy), two (hilarious), three (a little douchey).

I have to say, at first I wasn’t very impressed by Incubus’ new album, If Not Now, When?, but it’s definitely grown on me. It’s (band-admittedly) more ‘written’ in a musical sense, which takes away from what I LOVE about Light Grenades’ rougher melodies—plus the lyrics come off a little juvenile at times—but overall is a pretty solid album worth checking out.

This is a quick little teaser I did while in the peak of my film noir phase a few years ago. It simply aims to set up a noir atmosphere, but I stumbled across it the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the visual aesthetic I was able to come up with, too.

The monologue, as my most devoted fans will know, ultimately got tweaked and used in Last Night in Noir, the first video project I worked on (with Ajay Bhandari). If you haven’t already, you can watch all 4 mins here.

In keeping in line with today’s mind-melting theme, here’s a perspective-bending trip down San Fransisco’s Bay Bridge.

No editing, per se, just a healthy dose of camera magic. Google Street View has never been so DEEP!

Check out this video of the Canadian North. And feel free to drag around the picture while you watch it.

Dude, this is incredible. Simply astounding.

I’ve had it queued since you posted it, but haven’t been able to find words to accompany. It’s not so much the visuals/landscapes (which I am fortunate enough to say I’ve seen similar before) as the interactive 3D—and maybe a little bit of tenor, too. It gives me one of those cliche “wow… we’ve come so far” kind of moments.

I know it’s not the same as actually being in the helicopter, but damn, give it 25 years and check with me again: there’s a lot of potential in that kind of technology. (i.e. not ‘authentic,’ but ‘augmented’ through the likes of music, editing, re-playability, complexity, etc.)

On that note, I found it interesting how even through watching it multiple times, I often found myself navigating/directing the camera at similar areas during similar moments, almost as if there were indeed a ‘truer’ or more authentic view that I seemed to favour. You can bet I’ll be keeping my eye on things like this. Major thanks for sharing.

Oh my, this epic/cinematic teaser for Sony’s new interchangeable lens HD camcorder is PANTS!

Today’s minor big deal: My short film Maybe Film Dreams is playing today as part of the 2010 Gießen VideoArt Festival (GIGUK) in Germany! Germany, baby—Holy Schmetterling!
It’s one of only two Canadian shorts playing in the program, and this is especially important, of course, because now I can pretentiously call myself an “internationally shown artist”, yo.

EDIT: Apparently Tumblr queue thinks today is October 30th, but whatever… still stoked!
