The “Annie Hall Moment” familiar to anyone who’s been in a University too long!
Easily the most memorable part of that movie.

This is a quick little teaser I did while in the peak of my film noir phase a few years ago. It simply aims to set up a noir atmosphere, but I stumbled across it the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the visual aesthetic I was able to come up with, too.
The monologue, as my most devoted fans will know, ultimately got tweaked and used in Last Night in Noir, the first video project I worked on (with Ajay Bhandari). If you haven’t already, you can watch all 4 mins here.

COOOL. So if anyone knows anyone (parents, grandparents) who have any of these formats they should definitely bring them in for popcorn, home movies, and good times!!
I’m helping out with this so I definitely encourage everyone to come along too! Even if you don’t have your own films, it’s a hella fun time—there’s tons of free popcorn and cool people, and it gives you an interesting perspective on times past compared to how we deal with things now.

So these are the movies I definitely have tickets to so far. You should get one too and come join me so I’m not that guy sitting alone wishing my friends were more into obscure films.
I’m volunteering Monday (FUBAR), Tuesday (Howl) and Thursday evenings at the Plaza—so come say hi if you happen to be there too.
Finally, despite my thinking the line-up at CIFF this year kinda sucks—I couldn’t even make it through most of the synopses because too often the films just sounded so damn conventional (…character drama! …European drama!! …FAMILY drama!!! fuck)—I’m supporting it for the film-ishness alone. Hopefully CIFF doesn’t continue this descent into narrative-Hollywoodism in future years…
As much as it replaces my sleep with stress, I fucking love filmmaking.
Here’s a few stills from today’s two shoots, courtesy of whoever was holding the camera! (at various points: Stephanie Dawn Murray, Sheena Manabat, Jesse Collin, John Chau). You should also check out the extended album on Facebook. (And I have tons more that I’ll eventually upload too.)
