A little while back I posted a video about the nature of reality (vs illusion) that I thought was pretty damn insightful. This one, however, blows it out of the water. It talks about how closely the nature of the universe and our consciousness are linked—as if they are each figurative holograms—and gives a host of real world examples to support it, ranging from poltergeists to placebos. As in...

Earth Hour 2010
In light of Earth Hour 2010 (lowered electricity usage for an hour starting at 8:30PM tonight—Sat March 27), I’ve dimmed my blog’s theme to a low contrast, low monitor-light emitting colour scheme. Oh, and I’ll also be turning the power down later tonight, at 8:30PM exactly. I wonder if Enmax will notice a huge decrease at that moment or not? I hope so!

The Illusion of Reality. When I read that title, I thought, “Yea, I know all about that kind of stuff. Life’s all an illusion, we only exist if/as we perceive the world around us, string theory, blah blah, etc…” But then I watched it. This video is like LHC-type stuff on steroids, but narrated really well—and really lucidly; so much so that Quantum Electrodynamic Theory...

Intelligent children
In the current study, Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal, caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with, is evolutionarily novel. So more intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals. I dont care if you’re...

Pre-Spring Blues?
Well, I’ve been feeling kind of down lately: I’ve had an über busy month—especially this past week—filled with important commitments, unnecessary stress, and multiple all-nighters/ severe lack of sleep—all exacerbated by my becoming sick with a runny nose and sore throat, making me even less motivated to do quality work than usual(!) at a time when I really need to. Fortunately, this...

A MOVIE (Bruce Connor, 1958) A deeply ironic short film that could be seen as either a warning tale of humanity’s violent tendencies, or as an extended, entertaining metaphor for sex. Take your pick!

I’m rewriting this sequence (for a film class) as if Robert Altman were directing. I encourage everyone to take the time to watch the whole movie; I think it’s Scorsese’s best—and that’s definitely not what you think it is!

The Olympics are sweet.
The Olympics are sweet. When else do you get to see a country blatantly foregoing its usually tactful ideological dissemination in favour of pop-y, widest-possible-appeal all-out stunts of patriotism? Well, besides war, that is. But seriously, this was certainly the most flawless Olympics I’ve ever heard of or experienced. The shot of Alexandre Bilodeau during that...
